The Duchess of Malfi

Directed by: Maureen Shea, Costumes by: Rafael Jaen, Sets by: Ron DeMarco, Lighting by: Dan Henry

The Duchess of Malfi is a tragic play, written by the English dramatist John Webster. It was first performed in 1614 at the Globe Theatre in London. It is loosely based on true events that occurred between 1508 & 1513 recounted in William Painter's The Palace of Pleasure (1567). In this Emerson Stage production, the costume metaphors came from the text's many refernces to nature, e.g.: The Duchess palette was based on the male Robin Bird (she was the"Duke") and Cariola's the Dove.
